Sienna's Printable PRESS KIT: Sonicbids EPK

A brief history:

Sienna Dahlen grew up in a small, rural town called Dawson Creek (no, it's not the same as the TV Show!) in northern British Columbia, Canada.

Sienna is a freelance vocalist, instrumentalist, composer and teacher who is currently based in Toronto, Canada. She has been singing and composing jazz and other styles of creative music for over ten years and has had the pleasure of performing for audiences in Mexico, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark and the US, in addition to Canada. Sienna has shared the stage with the Paris-based, Canadian-born drummer, Karl Jannuska, as well as New York-based musicians, Marcus Strickland, Donny McCaslin, Brad Jones, and Tim Ries among many others. Sienna has also studied privately with David Binney and Dave Douglas, and holds a Bachelors degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University and a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto. In addition to four self-released, self-produced albums, Sienna has appeared as a guest vocalist on several recordings by some of Canada's most prolific artists, including Joel Miller, Mike Rud and Christine Duncan. In 2007, the Norwegian/Canadian-produced animated film, "The Danish Poet" (NFB), whose soundtrack features Sienna's voice, garnered an Academy Award. Sienna's own music has been licensed for the Global television series "Regenesis" on two occasions and her compositions can be heard regularly on the CBC as well as Radio Canada and other stations across Canada and abroad. In the spring of 2009, Sienna embarked on a cross-Canada tour with her Toronto jazz ensemble which consists of Dave Restivo, Andrew Downing and Nick Fraser and shortly thereafter, made her third trip abroad to perform for audiences in France and Belgium with her Paris-based group, "The Sienna Dahlen European Quartet" whose core members include Karl Jannuska and Pierre Perchaud. On this past trip she also recorded an album with the Karl Jannuska Sextet in Paris as well as in Gothenberg, Sweden with the Baerentzen/Dahlen Project (Denmark). In November of 2009, Sienna will be traveling to Russia with the Baerentzen/Dahlen Project for a series of performances in and around Moscow as part of the MuzEnergo Festival Series. Sienna has been a active member of Christine Duncan's vocal improvising ensemble, the "Element Choir" (Toronto) since its inception in 2007 and recently, she and co-leaders, Dave Restivo and Christine Jensen formed a group called "The Lifelines Ensemble".

A Long Way To Go

Here is what some people on the Canadian music scene have had to say about Sienna Dahlen's music:

"What an incredible direction for jazz. Excellent singer..and beautiful instrumental work...she sounds like she's got something to say and really knows how to say it. Joni Mitchell should hear her. People would hear a musical/spiritual link between them."

Bill Henderson, Canadian Producer, Composer, Musician and SOCAN board-member

"..I love her poetry. A voice filled with Molten Light!"

Katie Malloch, CBC Radio Host

"When I listen to an artist, I listen from three main perspectives: technical prowess/command of musical language, emotional/spiritual connection, and vision/creative artistry (ie: does this individual have a Voice, something that makes them unique?). There is much music that excels in one or two of these areas; the best music, however, displays a more or less equal balance between these elements, and in my opinion Sienna falls into this rather rare category."
